About Us
Anne suffered a massive stroke in 2004. She lost most of her mobility and with the break-up of her marriage she’s now a resident in Killeline Nursing Home, Newcastle West. She has two sons, Billand Michael. Both are very involved in sport.
Painting has filled the huge gap in Anne’s life where it devastated her body. It gave her an outlet to escape and gave her a silent voice. Anne’s painting is the use of bold colours and brush strokes. Anne’s stroke made her movement very loose and makes the paintings almost float. Her paintings are raw, out of focus and honest.
Music plays an integral role in Anne’s pictures. Anne listens to music while she paints. Anne now paints with her left hand, but before the stroke her right hand was her dominant side. However, Anne doesn’t want her art to be seen as that of a disabled person. She hopes that people will be able to see beyond that.
